MAYA HAYUK

Sugar Mountain & No Vacancy Presents   ~
‘YES!’ An exhibition of new works and installations by artists : MAYA HAYUK (Brooklyn, NY) & KYLE RANSON (San Fran, CA).

MAYA HAYUK is obsessed with symmetry and nourishing color played out in what might be views from the Hubble Telescope, airbrushed nail art, Ukrainian Easter eggs, chandeliers, mandalas, rorschach tests and/or holograms. Embracing sexuality and spirituality via symbolism evocative of radiantly woven geometries and beckoning parted orifices of the body, her work tries to decode a process towards continuity and wholeness while striking chords of pathological optimism. Along with her massive installations, Hayuk frequently collaborates with other artists and musicians. She has made album covers, posters, tee shirts, photographs, videos, video footage, murals and stage sets for Rye Rye / M.I.A, The Akron Family, TV on the Radio, Devendra Banhardt, Prefuse 73, Awesome Color, Oakley Hall, Home, Animal Collective, The Flaming Lips, Seun Kuti, Dan Deacon, & The Beastie Boys, amongst others. Her book JUST GOOD VIBES on Ginko Press came out in2007 and ROUND THE WAY, was published by Nieves in2010. She publishes hand-made screenprints with Pictures On Walls, in London UK. Her work has been exhibited and published extensively internationally in galleries, museums, on the streets and in various printed and electronic media. Hayuk was a participant at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, 2011. She has been organizing THIS WALL COULD BE YOUR LIFE, an on-going mural project since 2005 on the exterior walls of the now legendary and soon-to-be demolished Monster Island/ Secret Project Robotin Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
