A THOUSAND SHIPWRECKS:[30TH JULY 2009]

Sometime last year A Thousand Shipwrecks got a green dollar-sign light from the City of Melbourne Young Artists Grant Panel to put together a book showcasing young artists from different scenes around Melbourne. The basic idea was to create a project that forged new connections and networks between young emerging artists in the Melbourne art/design scene.

We sent out a call for expressions of interest and recieved a huge number of entries that were painfully culled down to just fifteen. We tried to make our selections as varied as possible, choosing artists working in the field of photography, illustration, graphic design, fashion and music.
The artists were given two months, a two page spread and a two-part brief:

Choose a quote referencing a nautical theme.
Then create, however you see fit, a visual response
to your chosen quote.

In the meantime while the artists busied away, we scored an amazing sponsorship from Raliegh paper who kindly donated their beautiful fibres to the project and another from Mountain Goat brewery who's tasty hops will ensure the launch is a success. The publication itself is a modest 42 page, full colour, A5 perfect bound number and will available from selected bookshops, retailers and online after the launch.
