Out of the Blue: Salvage Fictions

Sandra Kaji-O’Grady

12 - 23 March 2024

This exhibition of analog collages, digital ‘blueprints’, and three-dimensional apparatus envisions disorderly, anti-architectural assemblies for an increasingly unsettled future. Taking the form of architectural blueprints and full-scale prototypes, the assemblages are offered as designs for possible futures, crafted, as Nabokov proposes, from the reversal of the obsolete. The exhibition responds to two ‘aftermaths’ in the artist’s life: a lifetime of working in architecture; and the recent experience of flooding in the northern rivers of NSW where she now resides and co-directs the architectural practice Possible Studio. Shuttling between chaotic wastelands and architectural fantasies, the exhibition enacts a committed investigation into the political and aesthetic potential of the transitory and imperfect.
