Faith Spencer is a Naarm based painter whose practice moves between abstraction and figuration. She focusses on the layering features of oil paint, using colours that reflect her various moods or experiences as she works. Faith’s paintings are informed primarily by her perception, using colour and form to express the things which language can’t.
This collection is based on a series of photographs taken by the artist Cy Twombly. The raw, unfocused photos inspired me to recreate them in abstract forms, capturing the colours and the movement of the original photos. Two of the paintings focus on the blurring moments of the images, while the other two focus more on the forms within the pictures. Together the series captures the harmony and stillness of photography, expressed through abstraction.
