SENTI-METAL

17 - 21 September 2024

‘Senti-Metal’ is a part of Radiant Pavilion 2024 and showcases the work of 11 emerging Jewellers and Metal artists; Renee Becker, Lily Romano, Juliette Claire Wehling, Emily Chandler, Ko Jou Chen, Hannah Sidoti, Patricia Chiuariu, Ace Astrophel Hengel, Lilian Fung, Sally Baker and Karen Gall - all recent and diverse graduates of Melbourne Polytechnic’s Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design.

This exhibition explores emotional resonance through jewellery and metalwork. Sentimentality and vulnerability may be perceived as sensitive and corny by some, especially with rampant consumerist culture encouraging individuals to detach, dispose of, and devalue connection to their possessions. Conversely, artists will often express pieces of themselves in their work; their memories, tenderness, emotions, and feelings. ‘Senti-Metal’ invites viewers to ponder the personal narratives embedded within.

Each metal creation serves as a vessel for expression, providing insight into the maker’s experience. Complemented by additional mediums such as writing and sentimental photographs, the exhibition offers an exploration of sentimental attachment.
