Top Shelf October 2024

Top Shelf: an in-house curated space for small artworks, rotated monthly.

Cam Summers’ is a visual artist based on the Mid-North Coast of NSW. His practice interrogates themes that relate to an expressionist view of contemporary life. Finding comfort in a tactile ‘hands-on’ approach, the artist explores each idea with an undercurrent of emotion and establishes an understanding of each work as it progresses. Resolved form and unrefined linework creates movement and commotion in the work using mixed media including charcoal, acrylic, ink and pastel. Summers’ approach to the theme of Control is expressed in the chaotic exchange between abstraction and figuration. Control as a theme of our lived experience manifests in layered settings; between practice, introspection and society. In this collection of smaller works, the artist hints at a larger complexity whilst also encouraging a layered dialogue to begin.
