'no pub intended' features intaglio prints from Cat Lawrance's 2021 honours project in which she declared her hatred for printmaking and provoked the ghosts that haunt her copper plates and attempt to sabotage her prints.

Lawrance's prints depict an iterative process exploring 'parameters', which she defines as limitations identified within processes that are perceived to hinder an outcome. The exhibition draws awareness to the parameters within both intaglio printmaking and investigations of place, seeking to adjust the way we view constraints. Lawrance began the body of work methodically visiting three Melbourne pubs throughout singular evenings, capturing their progression through in-situ sketching. An amalgam of printmaking processes are used to exaggerate the inevitable variances between prints and the natural shifts of the pub. Artist proofs are pulled from each plate and later drawn on, inviting viewers to immerse themselves and discover the similarities and fluctuations detailed in each rendition.

Cat Lawrance is a printmaker and contemporary artist practising on unceded Wurundjeri land. In 2021, she completed her honours year after completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2020 at the Victorian College of the Arts. She has received recognition for her prints, including being a recipient of the 2019 Lionel Gell Foundation Scholarship and the National Gallery of Victoria Women's Association Awards, and shortlisted for the Majlis Traveling Scholarship. Over the past four years, Lawrance has been involved in several group exhibitions.
