Authorised Vintage 501 is a new experimental dance work that interrogates the roles of denim and skin as both materials of function and fashion.

Both these materials hold their own sense of durability, and throughout history have been symbols of Western political and social movements. From punks and hippies to post-war factories and Hollywood's Marilyn Monroe, denim has served a purpose for sub and countercultures since the beginning of its creation. Skin's functionality is vital to our bodies, however the presentation of this organ carries varied meanings across the globe.

Authorised Vintage 501 will truly integrate the worlds of fashion and dance. With five performers dressed in sustainable, up-cycled, head-to-toe denim garments, the audience will experience a highly structured choreographic performance that shifts the space from runway to industrial functionality.

NoVacancy is hosting three sessions of this body of work as a part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
