SAPROPHYTES

Molly Stephenson

Souls of the deceased are invited back into the world of the living through a selection of colours, textures, forms and objects in Stephenson’s third solo exhibition, Saprophytes: New Life Out of Death. She explores the transference of energy from the dead and the dying through rhythmic mark making and up-cycled objects.  Her body of work explores how material is of spirit; one that has been alive and contributed to a larger ecosystem of bodies, histories, cultures and traditions. Working within these portals of different dimensions and understandings aim to illuminate how mystery, surprise and intuition can act as an antidote to frustration, fear, assumption and control in relation to the existential experience of life and death.
