PERFORMANCE: ‘Under the Skin’

Here are three women. Three moments in time. Three explorations into finding a new life in a new place, Australia. They are extraordinary in there own right but not uncommon or unique. These women could be anyone. They could be the lady who serves you at the grocery store or the woman who sits next to you on the bus. In fact, they probably are. Australia is these women, these stories. There is so much beauty in that. There is also pain, isolation and prejudice.

July 4-6, 8.30 pm.

Tickets here.

ART WORKSHOP: The Other List

The Other List is an interactive, process-driven visual art project that draws on women’s conversations, examining the casualisation of gendered language. Women of all backgrounds are invited come and paint their own statement in their own language, on a coloured flag, that will go towards a larger installation at the Immerse Festival, Knox, in September. The workshop is part of a year-long project that started on International Women’s Day ,inspired by the protest banners at the Women’s March. The multiple flags will form a collective narrative that act as protest symbols to counter the overwhelming advertising material that enforces gendered stereotypes.

Facilitator: Sonia Zymantas. Sonia is a Melbourne born, socially engaged artist, who specialises in activating public spaces through community consultations. She uses everyday materials and personal memories to draw on conversations and connection to public and private spaces as personal spaces. Her projects highlight untold stories and feminist perspectives in a multicultural, urban setting.

July 6, 10 am to midday

Free event, RSVP here.
